With the New Year here, we are getting ready to say ‘hello’ to some beautiful new wedding trends for the year, but what will they be? In 2019 we saw blush everywhere in Spring with eucalyptus and copper accents. Fall brought us moody eclectic vibes, mixing wood accents with a darker color palette. This year is the turn of the decade and will be a special one for sure, kicking off the 2020’s with a BANG!
Everyone has rung in the New Year, so let’s predict the wedding trends for 2020!

Signature Cocktails and Espresso Drinks
With this New Year couples will be opting to go for more specialty cocktails to shake up their drink menu. We love seeing the personality and creativity go into the often-overlooked bar, your guests will thank you! Espresso drinks are very on-trend, helping you get your drink on, and stay awake long enough to hear the last call.

Creative Eating Experiences
Couples are going to be switching up the buffet line this year, with grazing tables being hugely popular in 2019 we are expecting the appetizer style eating to be on the rise! We are looking to mix up the menus this year, bringing fusion cuisine in Korean BBQ Tacos #yum. Expect ‘late night’ menus featuring your fave bar food and guilty pleasure eats (soft pretzels anyone?) Check out this article Martha Weddings has on late night snacks!

Statement Lighting
Lanterns were everywhere this past year and we saw a few sneak peeks at what is to come in the new year. Statement lighting is becoming more popular, couples are expecting purposeful lighting whether a gorgeous customized neon light, chandeliers, or giant marquee lettering. Creating the mood with lighting is continuing on next year, and getting a little makeover!

Dainty Hair Accessories
Veils and Tiaras are being swapped for more delicate hair accessories. Barrettes and clips are coming in, often with soft pearl or floral accents. We are loving the idea of ditching the veil after the ceremony and using hair jewelry to keep your hair looking just as gorgeous for the rest of the night!

Linen by La Tavola
Specialty Linen
Moody accents are in, and black velvet runners made an appearance in one of our Fall weddings, setting the tone for the love-filled night. The couple was able to add texture to their tablescapes without having to deviate from their dark color palette. We are expecting this trend to continue but with a different twist. Expect linen to be focussed on texture and hue this year, think faded denim, gauze, and natural linen.

Cakes with Movement
We love seeing floral accents on wedding cakes, but couples are trying to spice up the new year! Look forward to seeing cakes with movement, bakers are using fondant and sugar glass to create abstract movement. Check out this article by Green Wedding Shoes where they are showcasing some amazing examples of movement in cakes!

Mysticism
We all love a bit of yoga and zen, but we don’t typically expect the things that relax you to be included in your wedding. We’re seeing couples incorporate their New Age beliefs or just their overall love of crystal accents and a zen mindset. Expect rose quartz and amethyst decor, sage burning, and an overall more boho wedding than just the macrame we’ve seen in 2019.

Sustainability
Everyone this past year has been a bit more environmentally conscious. We’re seeing a push for “upcycled weddings”. A few examples of how couples are being more sustainable in their planning include invitations made from recycled paper, biodegradable glitter, and confetti, buying previously loved #thrifted decor, and committing to a venue that has their own tableware so no disposables are needed. A little effort goes a long way!
Whatever new wedding trends may pique your interest, remember to keep your wedding uniquely you! That’s a major part of trends for the new year, incorporating the personality of the couple! We are so excited to see what 2020 brings the wedding industry, what trends are you looking forward to?
