Ten Wedding Trends to Know for 2018

Each year I as I sit down with all different types of couples I begin to notice similarities in many of their ideas. Living in Arizona, I was in love with the desert vibes, macramé backdrops and bohemian feels of 2017. Some of these trends made their appearance last year and will continue to flourish throughout this year, but I think of 2018 as being more romantically dark and moody. Think bold color pallets and texture galore!

1. Darker Color Pallets with Metallic Accents – Black is in!
2017 was all about ivory, white, light greens and blush. Sure, we saw plenty of metallic in 2017 too (especially rose gold), but metallic accidents aren’t going anywhere! However, they will certainly become less prominent with copper becoming more of a focus. Color pallets containing black are becoming increasingly popular often paired with a dark wine or other dramatic colors. Black is back and we are loving it!

2. Unique Ceremony Backdrops & Geometric Elements
Ceremony backdrops were an important part of our weddings last year with each one being more creative than the last. Whether it was a breathtaking view or a custom-made geometric art piece decorated with floral accents, each and every backdrop wowed us! These backdrops will continue to come in hot this year. So couples, bring on the creativity!

3. Moody & Colorful Floral Décor
Say goodbye to mostly ivory roses and blush English garden roses and hello to burgundy berry dahlias and bolder more colorful floral designs.  Couples are also opting for fairly simple tablescapes and choosing dramatic hanging floral designs above guest tables instead.

4. Eclectic Rentals & Floral Containers
Weddings don’t have to be entirely matchy-matchy and couples are starting to embrace that! Not every table needs to have the same candle pieces or floral containers. It is all about the colored glass, vintage metals, cement containers and geometric shapes.

5. Unique Place Cards
Please everyone say goodbye to place card tents! There are so many other ways to display the guests’ names. Think acrylic, tiles, magnets, stones, wooden chips and even leaves. What’s even more fun is that couples are displaying the name cards in insanely creative ways. Sometimes the display even doubles as an art piece they can keep
forever!

6. Colored Candles
Candles are a signature décor piece in most weddings. Very rarely do we hear a couple say they hate candles. Who hates candles anyway?! Another way couples are bringing in dramatic color is with their candles.  Black or wine colored tapers combined with bold and fun floral décor?  Yes, please!

7. Marble Accents
We are seeing marble pop up in many different aspects of wedding decor – marble accents on invitations, marble floral containers, marble tile place cards, marble charger plates and even marble dance floors. Yes, marble freaking dance floors – how rad!

8. Velvet
Velvet is on the rise – velvet dresses, velvet shoes, velvet ties and velvet linen! La Tavola Fine Linen Rental Company offers gorgeous velvet runners and full-length tablecloths in a variety of dramatic colors for this year. We can’t wait to pair this linen with colored candles, eclectic rental items and bold floral designs.

9. In with the ‘Romantic Woodsy’ and Out with the ‘Rustic Shabby Chic’
Couples are opting for more woodsy elements instead of a full on rustic country affair. Burlap is dwindling and we are seeing simple wooden elements on invites, charger plates and floral containers with tons of foliage and branches.

10. Food that the Couple Loves
The traditional 3-course sit down meal is no longer and couples are choosing more interactive options such as food trucks, taco bars, wood fire pizza ovens and appetizer stations. They are incorporating what they love and it is truly amazing.
Couples are craving creativity and have the desire to be uniquely authentic. They are more interested than ever in showing their guests the effort they have put forth and we couldn’t be happier!

xoxo,
Nichole
